Botox, Filler and PRP

Botox® as a wrinkle treatment, has been in use for over 18 years for a range of medical conditions.

In fact, it’s been approved for medical use in Canada and in more than 75 countries for 20 different applications. Today, Botox® has become the most popular physician-administered cosmetic treatment in North America with an estimated three million treatments performed annually.

Dermal Fillers

Take years off the age of your appearance with dermal fillers.

Fight the signs of aging with an easy and quick process that can make you look more youthful with no down time. As we age, the face deflates and descends resulting in a tired sagging appearance. The non-surgical face lift also known as the instant face lift or the “soft lift”, creates a dramatically more youthful and refreshed appearance in less than an hour with no downtime. Results can last from 6 to 12 months, but may last longer due to the stimulation of your body’s own collagen, making this one of our most sought after procedures.

What is PRP?

PRP is a treatment which uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cell growth, helping to improve your complexion, skin texture and to restore lost facial volume. Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special “factors,” or proteins, that help your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth. Injecting PRP into damaged tissues or aging skin, will stimulate your body to grow new, healthy cells and promote healing. PRP can also be successfully used to treat thinning hair and hair loss.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® is the only product of its kind that is directed at the facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. It targets what are known as dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repeated muscular contractions, such as frowning and squinting. Botox®, an injectable treatment derived from a purified protein, works by relaxing the muscles that cause these dynamic wrinkles, giving your face a more relaxed and refreshed appearance. Best of all, regular use of this simple treatment will soften expression lines and help to “stop the clock” on the development or further deepening of the lines. In addition, treatment is so quick and easy that you can often have it done over lunch.

Where can Botox® be used?

The most common treatment areas include the frown lines between the eyebrows, the horizontal lines that run across the forehead, and the crow’s feet around the outer eyes.

Will my face still have expression?

Botox® is intended to enhance the way you look, not change it. When administered by an experienced physician, you can still smile, frown, and be expressive. The treatment only relaxed the muscle beneath the lines at the point of injection, so the other elements of your facial expression remain active. It also has no effect on the sensory nerves, so you will have normal feeling in the treated areas.

Are Botox® treatments safe?

Botox has been licensed in Canada since 1990 as a safe and effective treatment for a variety of medical conditions. In 2001, Health Canada approved Botox® for wrinkle therapy, and it has been proven to be very safe through extensive research and testing.

What is a Botox treatment like?

A tiny amount of Botox® is injected very precisely into the muscle being treated. A very fine needle and a small amount of liquid is used so the pain associated with the injection is minimal. The sensation has been compared to a small bug bite. No sedation or local anesthetic is required, and you can resume normal activities
immediately.

How long does a Botox treatment take?

A Botox® procedure is quick, simple, and there’s no downtime. Following a facial analysis by your physician and a discussion on your desired outcome, the procedure itself only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to perform.

How much does a Botox® treatment cost?

The costs associated with a treatment are dependent on the amount of product needed and the areas of the face being treated. For example, treating frown lines between the eyebrows typically costs $300 to $600 depending on the size of the area and depth of the lines. Dr. Venter will discuss what to expect in terms of cost during your consultation. The cost per unit is $10.

Who should not use this treatment?

There are very few restrictions regarding the use of Botox®. Those who are pregnant, nursing, or have a neurological disease should not be treated.

How soon will i see a difference after a Botox treatment?

You can expect to see results within days after the procedure. The appearance of wrinkles and lines will continue to diminish for up to one week.

Are there creams that are better than Botox?

There is no scientific evidence that creams work better that Botox®. Creams work well on the surface of the skin, whereas Botox® works below the surface to relax the muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles to form.
